Superintendent's Message:

Cyndy S. Taymore
Superintendent of Schools

Welcome to the Melrose Public Schools. Melrose is a wonderful, family oriented community that values education.  As a school district, we are committed to building strong partnerships between the families we serve and the schools their children attend.  As a community we collaborate so that our children can achieve the personal and academic success they need to become responsible and successful citizens in our global community.

The Melrose Public Schools embodies a professional learning community wherein current research informs instruction and challenges us all to be lifelong learners. We are engaged in continuous improvement through the use of assessment and targeted professional development to expand our ability to provide each student a rigorous, relevant, and researched-based learning experience. Furthermore, we seek to promote a positive, caring culture that fosters a sense of belonging for all students, ensures that students are active participants in the learning process, and demonstrates acceptance and respect for the diversity of our community.

Through our strong academic and extracurricular opportunities, we are also working to prepare our students to be highly skilled, productive and thoughtful citizens in the 21st century. We must help students to master 21st century skills and the competencies students need as outlined by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. These competencies include "...such things as oral and written communication skills, self-direction, social responsibility, mastery of technology and the ability to work in teams…To successfully face rigorous higher education coursework, career challenges and a globally competitive workforce, U.S. schools must align classroom environments with real world environments by fusing the three Rs and four Cs." As a district, we are actively engaged in deepening our curriculum, expanding our instructional practices, and using the data from common assessments as well as embedding the 4Cs of critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity into our teaching and learning.

The Melrose Public Schools is committed to making our goal "Excellence for All" a reality.  By working together, we can achieve this goal.  Please participate with us in this engaging and exciting work so that all our children may have the best future possible.
