Naming Procedures

Procedure for Reviewing and Approving Naming/Renaming of Facilities.

In order to provide a consistent approach to the naming of schools, fields and or facilities, the following procedure will be followed to ensure a prompt decision process, which, whenever possible, will reflect the wishes of the community.

The Superintendent will meet with members of the community to discuss the rationale and viability of the name(s) being brought forth for consideration. The Superintendent will present a recommendation to the School Committee at a scheduled School Committee meeting of the Finance and Facilities Sub-Committee. The Superintendent will provide the rationale for the recommendation as outlined in the policy for discussion and/or action by the committee.

The School Committee will have final and absolute authority over the naming of a school or space within a school.
