The Committee is committed to adopting meaningful, high-quality written policies, rules, and regulations that relate to the academics, discipline, conduct, safety, and welfare of all students enrolled in district schools.
The implementation of the general rules of conduct is the responsibility of the principal and the professional staff in each building. In order to do this, staff members in each school will develop rules of conduct not inconsistent with the law or in conflict with Committee policy. These building rules will be an extension of district policy by being more specific as they relate to individual schools.
The purpose of disciplinary action is to restore acceptable behavior. When disciplinary action is necessary, it will be administered with fairness and will relate to individual needs and circumstances.
Students violating any student conduct policies will be subject to disciplinary action. The degree, frequency, and circumstances surrounding each incident will determine the method used to enforce these policies. Most situations that require disciplinary action can be resolved within the confines of the classroom or as they occur by reasonable but firm reprimand, and/or by teacher conferences with the student and/or parents or guardians.
If a situation should arise in which there is no applicable written policy, the staff member will be expected to exercise reasonable and professional judgment.
