Every effort will be made to communicate a thorough understanding of the programs, plans, activities, and successes and challenges of the district to media outlets in a respectful and timely manner.
All media representatives will be given equal access to district information. News releases of interest to the entire community will be made available to all media outlets simultaneously. There will be no exclusive releases, except as media representatives request specific information.
To ensure effective and efficient dissemination of district information, the following procedures will be followed:
1. The Chairman will be the official spokesperson for the Committee, except when this duty is delegated to the Superintendent.
2. News releases that are of a city-wide or sensitive nature or those that pertain to established Committee policy are the responsibility of the Superintendent.
3. News releases that are of concern to only one school, or to an organization of one school, are the responsibility of the principal of that particular school. All statements made to the media by other staff members of a particular school must be cleared with the principal.
In the interest of supporting high standards of integrity and credibility in district communications, the Committee expects that information will be provided in a dignified and professional manner that lends context to, and improves understanding of, district issues and activities.
