KF: Community Use of Facilities

The Committee wants community members to enjoy the use of school property and preserve it for school programs by using it safely. Use of school buildings and other facilities by internal and external organizations will be permitted when appropriate educational, civic, or charitable purposes will be served or when a substantial group of citizens from the community will benefit.

School facilities will be used according to the guidelines, procedures, and rental fee schedules recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Committee. Permission for use of facilities must be obtained through the Superintendent’s Office, where rental forms are available for this purpose.

School facilities will be available for the following:

1.  District activities, including those sponsored by parent-teacher organizations

2.  City of Melrose public hearings and political activities

3.  Meetings and activities sponsored by the Committee

4.  Recreation Department activities

5.  Local nonprofit and noncommercial organization activities

6.  Civic, educational, social, and religious organization activities, if a substantial number of the members are Melrose residents

7.  Activities of other organizations when approved by the Committee

The priority for use of school facilities is as follows:

1.  District activities

2.  City meetings and elections over other community activities

3.  Recreation Department activities
