Student Schedules Update
On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, our counseling staff and administrators worked hard to complete student schedules and address missing classes. This week, as we do every year, we will continue to finalize and adjust our students who receive additional services or have unique scheduling needs. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s schedule, please contact your child’s guidance counselor.
School Supplies
School supply lists can be found here on the Melrose Public Schools website.
We have backpacks and supplies for students/families in need. If you need assistance acquiring school supplies, please contact your child’s guidance counselor.
Locker Update
Most students were given a locker this past week. Students who are awaiting a locker and who are allowed to carry their backpacks are provided a luggage tag to show school staff that they are allowed to carry their backpacks. Additional lockers have been ordered, and we are working with the DPW to repair any lockers that need it. Homeroom teachers are documenting and communicating any locker issues, so if your student has a problem with their lock or locker, please have them speak with their homeroom teacher first.
Chromebook Distribution Update
We distributed many Chromebooks on Wednesday and Thursday to students whose parents/caregivers had completed the registration form before Wednesday morning. This week, we will distribute devices to students whose parents/caregivers have completed the registration form since Wednesday. We are working with the IT Department to send a communication to any families that have not completed the registration form.
The district now offers a Chromebook Protection Plan that can be purchased annually. For more information on the protection plan, please visit the Chromebook Policy Page on the District website.
Students receiving a Chromebook for the first time this year had the opportunity to register for the protection plan while registering for their Chromebook.
The IT Department has set up a separate form for families who were previously issued a MPS Chromebook and are interested in registering for the protection plan. The registration form outlines the coverages and exclusions of the plan and can be found here.
Emergency Protocols and Drills
At Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, the safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority. During grade-level meetings, our assistant principals introduced students to the Standard Response Protocol developed by The "I Love U Guys" Foundation that Melrose Public Schools has adopted.
In the coming weeks and months, we will continue to teach our students about the different protocols and run practice drills, like we do to prepare for a fire. Our intention in sharing our procedures for different situations and practicing drills with students is to reduce some students' worry and help students be prepared for different situations.
On Thursday, September 7th, in cooperation with the Melrose Fire Department, we conducted our first fire drill.
Agenda Books
All students will receive an Agenda Book on Wednesday this week. They will also participate in an executive functioning lesson during PRIME Time about utilizing their Agenda Book. Reviewing your child’s Agenda Book with them each evening is an excellent way for families to support students in staying organized and preparing for the coming days of school.
Save the Date: Back to School Night
MVMMS will be hosting its annual Back-to-School Night on Thursday Evening, September 28th. More details about the event will be shared in an upcoming newsletter.
