Melrose Cultural Council Accepting Grant Proposals
September 1 through October 16 for the 2025 Calendar Year
Melrose, MA: The Melrose Cultural Council (MCC) is seeking proposals for community-oriented arts,
cultural, and interpretive sciences events and programming with broad public benefit and impact. The
2025 Local Cultural Council (LCC) grant application cycle opens September 1. The deadline to apply is
Wednesday, October 16. The MCC’s goal is to provide financial support on a direct granting basis to a
variety of projects that appeal to the diverse population and cultures within our community — reaching
adults of all ages, youth, children, families, and seniors. Information about the online application,
eligibility guidelines, local priorities, and past grants can be found on our website
www.melroseculture.org/apply.
Grant Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must present their events and programming during the
upcoming calendar year (January 1-December 31, 2025) with a local ADA-compliant venue. Applicants
are urged to closely read and follow the LCC Program eligibility guidelines and local priorities on the
website. Unlike past grant cycles, the MCC may now fully fund approved projects, eliminating the need
for applicants to seek additional sources of funding. We do not accept requests for capital expenditures,
individual scholarships, or multi-year repeating programs. We encourage first-time applications.
Prospective applicants are welcome to contact the MCC to ask questions or to receive feedback on
proposals before submitting. Grants are competitive and not all requests are awarded or fully funded. In
2024, seventeen grants were awarded, ranging from $225 to $1,600.
Priorities: Our 2025 priorities are informed by a recent community outreach survey. We are actively
encouraging applications that address inclusion, diversity, and equity. Priority will be given to projects
that build community through social connections and dialogue. We hope to elevate the voices and
experiences of historically underrepresented groups that reflect and highlight the current and historic
diversity of Melrose residents in an authentic way, through arts and culture. Projects that speak to the
experience of Massachusetts artists and audiences who identify as BIPOC, Latinx, LGBTQIA, immigrant,
or live with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Proposals for innovative ideas, collaborations, and new
initiatives that produce free public events and activities in outdoor spaces are favorably welcomed.
About the Council: The Melrose Cultural Council is the local affiliate of the Massachusetts Cultural
Council. Part of a statewide network in cities and towns funded by the legislature, MCC is committed to
supporting programs that promote excellence, education, cultural diversity, inclusion, and equity to foster
a rich and vibrant cultural life in Melrose. Grants are given to Melrose organizations, individuals, and
Massachusetts artists/presenters in partnership with local organizations. We encourage and support
programs across all arts disciplines — visual arts, music, theater, dance, writing, projects in the
humanities, history, local culture, and interpretive sciences.

Dear Melrose Public Schools Families,
The Massachusetts State Primary Election is Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Melrose voters can head to the polls between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Gymnasium located at 90 Melrose Street. Please be aware that there may be increased traffic near the middle school throughout the day on Tuesday.
As school will be in session, voters are encouraged to use the parking lot located behind the middle school gym, park on Melrose Street, or on any other abutting street. Melrose Police Department will not ticket for any timed parking regulations posted on any of the streets around the school. Please be advised that vehicles may be subject to ticketing if too close to hydrants, driveways, crosswalks, or intersections, and streets that are posted “No Parking this Side” such as on the school side of Melrose Street. Voters and poll workers cannot park in the MHS lots as those are reserved for school staff use only.
Thank you for your help with this matter

Hello Melrose Families,
We will open Aspen's family portal today at 3:30 p.m. Once that occurs, you will need to log in to view your child’s academic and course information for this school year, including teacher assignments at the elementary and preschool levels.
The Family tab shows the students connected to your Aspen account. The Academics tab allows you to view your child’s courses and schedule. For elementary students, this will include your student’s homeroom teacher and any specialist teachers assigned to work with your child’s class. For Middle and High school, this includes the block-by-block rotation schedule. Please note: The Middle School is getting close to publishing schedules and will communicate more with the families this week with an update.
For more information and resources to help navigate the Family portal, please see this help page.
Any questions about scheduling or teacher assignments should be directed to your building principal.
If you have trouble accessing the portal or do not have your student listed, please submit a tech ticket at aspenhelp@melroseschools.com that includes the following information:
Your Name and Email
Student(s) Name, School, and Grade
Description of the problem
We are looking forward to a great year!
